How To Land That First Medical Coding Job Money

“I need experience to land a job but I need a job to get that experience” is something often heard from those looking for work in a new field. This dilemma is particularly true when it comes to finding that first job as a medical coder. Job postings often include two requirements: two to three years experience and a current certification. But even if you don’t have the experience or are not yet certified, there are a number of things you can do to greatly improve your chances of being hired.

1. Understand what coding managers are really looking for. Above all, employers are looking for a high level of proficiency. What that means is the ability to work as quickly and accurately as possible. As you move through other ways of getting ready to join the workforce, keep in mind that proficiency is your foremost goal. Time is money and an accurate coder can save huge amounts of time (not to mention headaches) for their employer.

2. If you are not certified, show that you are seeking certification. If you have convincing proof that you are preparing for a particular certification exam (study materials, knowledge of what is on the exam, location and dates of exams) it will carry extra weight during any interview process.

3. Get some real world experience online. There are a number of websites that contain sample reports you can take a run at. Another alternative, and one that is gaining popularity, is Practicode, which provides hundreds of actual cases (with all personal information removed) that you can work through to increase your proficiency while you gain experience coding real world cases. Practicode provides proof of your coding abilities in the form of a report you can show potential employers.

4. Find a way to serve an apprenticeship or internship. AAPC has a program they call Project Xtern. They state: “Project Xtern was designed to match newly certified coders with facilities willing to give them field experience.” The key to this program is you must be certified in a certain area of coding and an AAPC member.

If you are not certified, consider contacting a healthcare employer in your town and introduce the idea of serving them as a coding intern. With a little bit of effort, and if you can demonstrate confidence in yourself and enthusiasm for becoming a coder, you might be able to convince them to take you on as an intern.

5. Be specific about your education. The key here is to focus on the kind of study that gives you the best chance of getting hired. Pinpoint what you need. Don’t take “too wide a sweep” in your education by spending time on study that has no real effect on improving your chances of getting hired.

6. Consider specializing in one area of coding. This could be the best decision you make. It will allow you to focus all your energy in one area and pinpoint your job search. When it comes to finding work, knowing a lot about one area of coding, rather than knowing a little about coding in general, may be the key to finding work. And specializing makes the whole process much less overwhelming.

Although it seems a bit daunting at first, there are a number of things you can do to improve your chances of landing that first medical coding job.

10 Ways to Make Money With Body Painting Money

Are you considering making a living (or at least a little money on the side) doing body painting? Is it even possible to make a living doing body painting? Yes, you can make good money as a ‘pro’ body painter, and even kids as young as twelve have made good money (like $500-$400 in an afternoon) doing simple painting techniques like airbrushed temporary tattoos at fairs and festivals.

It may be difficult to believe that there are so many different ways to make money doing body painting. I know that when I first discovered the art of body painting, I thought maybe you could make some temporary money at a party or fair. But there are many, many more possibilities, as you will see.

Here are just 10 of the ways you could get paid to do body painting:

1. Doing body painting at parties. You could hire yourself for a night or a day and get paid either by the hour or a flat fee for the event.

2. Painting party-goers before they go to a party or event. Themed or holiday parties would be a good opportunity for this. Make sure you mention that you could body paint their friends, too!

3. As a professional body painter for the theatre. You could do one show for a discount to get in the door and get some recognition, if you don’t have a track record yet.

4. Travel with the circus as their ‘in house’ makeup artist.

5. Become the official body painter for a dance company. Again, you could work for a low fee or even free to get in the door.

6. Face painting alone opens up several opportunities: parties, festivals, fairs, and special events all are possible places for you to set up shop. Just make sure (as with all these options) that you are using proper, non-allergenic paints meant for face painting alone.

7. Special events like graduations, celebrations, fundraisers, and reunions.

8. Sports events: painting fans in their team colors and symbols has had a long tradition.

9. Festivals around the world. There are several festivals specifically for body painting around the world, but there are many more that would be a great place for body painting. Look up the festivals in your area and find out how to become a vendor and what their requirements and rules are.

10. Teach others how to do body painting. You could hold a one-time workshop, give ongoing group classes or even do an online body painting course (as I am doing).

I hope this gives you some good ideas about how you could make money as a body painting artist. Maybe you have even thought of some ways that I didn’t include…great! Choose one method, research what you need to do to get started, and go for it!

Bonus Tip:

Here’s a secret hint…as you are considering one of the possibilities above. Don’t choose what you think would make you the most money…choose what you think you would happiest and best at doing. You will always make more doing something you love doing, in the long run!

Guide, Teach and Mentor With an Online Tutoring Business Money

Tutoring is a fast growing and extremely popular profession in the modern era. With students not receiving individual attention in school and working parents lacking the time to help their children with school work, more and more people now search for tutors.

Tutors are sought for in many areas, in which skills can be taught and acquired. For example in academic subjects such as math, languages & geometry, for sports such as tennis, swimming & baseball, for acquiring computer skills such as word processing, designing & programming or even for hobbies such as sewing, crafting or sculpting.

Tutoring to students is carried out in many ways. “In-home” tutoring is when the tutor visits the home of the student to offer his/her services while “at-my-place” tutoring is when the student visits the home of the tutor to obtain his/her services. Online tutoring and email tutoring is when the tutor and student conduct their lessons via the help of the internet. For online tutoring a specific time is set between the tutor and the student to carry out the lesson through instant messaging services such as Yahoo, AOL, MSN, etc. Email tutoring is when the tutor and the student rely on emails to perform their lessons. The advantage of online and email tutoring is that the tutor and the student need not be in the same city or country to carry out the studies and also the time and money spent on commuting is saved.

With the increase of demand for tutors, more and more people prefer to stay at home and start their own tutoring venture. The most essential qualifications that are required to become a tutor, with the exception of having an in-depth knowledge of the subject or subjects which you are going to teach are good communication skills, enduring patience and the ability to connect with your students. You should also posses the qualities of reliability and dependability. Sticking to the planned schedules with your students are very important since you are providing a valuable service.

Having your own online tutoring venture provides you with many advantages. For starters you would be working from home which in turn provides you with more time to spend with your family. Reduction of costs involved in commuting and of acquiring office attire is another advantage. In addition you would be having more flexibility. And above all you can have the satisfaction in providing an esteemed service to the society.

You can carry out this venture as a part time or full time occupation. Also the subjects and the number of subjects that you want to tutor, completely depends on you. When considering the subjects, it is important that you have a thorough understanding in that particular field. In the tutoring profession your potential students could vary from elementary to high school or even grown ups who require tutoring in specific areas such as the computer field or hobbies. The number of subjects that you wish to tutor depends on the amount of energy and time you can utilize for this venture.

As an independent tutor you would have an advantage over tutoring companies, since you would be providing one-to-one tutoring which most parents prefer for their children at a much friendlier rate.

Starting a tutoring business costs very little and it provides a steady source of income all year round. Your tutoring rates will depend on your experience, the demand for that specific subject and the market price. If you are new to this venture it is always better to charge less than the competitors till you are able to gain experience and prove your value in the field.

When launching your own online business, you should first determine the number of subjects you want to tutor and the age group you are focusing on. Depending on these factors you can concentrate on your target audience, how to approach them and your marketing strategy. Even though “word of mouth” is the biggest marketing tool in this profession, having a website is another significant way to market your online tutoring venture.

When conducting tutoring sessions, in order to make it as effective as possible you should prepare your sessions in advance, know your subject and any changes in the content, be professional and supportive of the student. The keys to succession in the online tutoring profession are being result oriented, establishing sound relationships with the students and their parents and providing an exceptional service.

How to Make Money With Your Wood Turning Skills Money

As woodturning continues from beginner to more advanced levels for the enthusiast the question sometimes arises as to how to make money with these wood turning skills. For many hobbyists the dream is to make the enjoyment a money maker, perhaps to the point of it becoming a full time occupation. Here are few things to keep in mind.

First there is the reality of knowing the difference between making money and making a living. Woodturning is a very competitive business and most woodturners who are able to do so for a living have either a long experience at the trade with a great reputation, do a lot of teaching, or have a spouse with a great paying job. It is very difficult to turn full time and have a reasonable income.

On the other hand there are some great avenues for making money as a hobby turner. It is important to be faithful to the art and craft of woodturning and to realize that if you are going to sell what you make, you should price according to the value placed by full time competitors. They are trying to make a living and underselling them is not fair. Besides, if your work is not good enough to compete, it is not fair either to the art and craft to sell inferior work. If you are able to sell at a fair price, chances are the hobby will at least pay for itself and these days that is not bad at all.

Decide what products you are going to sell and ask yourself if you are willing to make them. If your enthusiasm is to turn one of a kind artistic items you will find it to be a high end market that competes with ceramics, painting, photographs and a host of other artistic work. Most woodturners who are able to make money at the craft do so by turning multiples of small items such as pens or kitchenware. Salad bowls by the carload may earn enough money to allow the turning of a few artistic items to keep the interest up.

Craft shows now abound and are a good place to sell woodturnings. If work is displayed professionally and you enjoy working with the public you can have a great time at a show and sell well. Make sure your turnings fit the show and decide to enjoy the experience.

Teaching is another way to expand the income from turning. It is one of the fastest growing area of woodworking today and people are looking for instruction. For a bit of experience show a friend or two something about your way to turn wood and determine if teaching is for you.

While some people do sell work on the internet it will probably be small items turned in multiples once again. Most artistic items will sell only if they are held and fondled first. Wood is a very tactile item in its turned form and folks want to touch before buying.

As in most cases, selling woodturnings is a case of the right price at the right time in the right place. However people have been selling turnings for a long time and it may be the right time for you to start.
